Pauline Pete
Favourite sweater

“When I was small, my granny knitted a sweater for me – my favourite piece of clothing!”

In her first original picture book, Pauline Pete, in sparse words and beautiful images, tells the story of a special bond between a girl and her grandmother. The two of them go ballooning, visit a museum and take a stroll through town. Even when the girl is on her own, she thinks of her grandmother whenever she wears her special sweater. The garment symbolizes the close and happy relationship between the two and gives solace as a difficult farewell looms ahead. She keeps her sweater for many years along with all her beautiful childhood memories until handing it down to her own son, hoping he will feel as loved, cozy and warm as she once did, while collecting his personal memories and adventures.

Pauline Pete: “The book was created with mixed materials: ink, crayon, gouache and artists’ water colour. These materials enable the creation of a variety of structures, patterns and surfaces. Right from the beginning, the sweater was the central element. It was painted with particular opaque and vibrant gouache colors. I then added a fine crayon structure to create a feeling of wool.”
