Captain Ocean

Louise Heymans
Captain Ocean

Jonah has only just moved to a new town when he finds a tiny sailor in the cellar. The sailor introduces himself as Captain Ocean. He was swept overboard during a storm, and the tide washed him up on the cellar steps. Jonah quickly grows fond of the little sailor, and the two of them become best friends. But Captain Ocean’s longing to see the sea grows stronger with every passing day.

He needs to find a new ship, which is easier said than done, but luckily Hanna and Leo live nearby.

Louise Heymans uses a complicated technique to create her intricate illustrations. First she paints individual sheets, then she uses an etching needle to engrave pictures in the painted surface, and finally, she scans the sheets and digitally superimposes them on top of one another.
