Dancing Through Your Head
Thoughts – pushy, quiet, tidy, and colorful thoughts. Some of them make us feel great helping us imagine or remember beautiful scenes that make us want to spend all day with them. Others make us want to run, or erase them if we could.
How do our thoughts form and move around our heads? How consciously or unconsciously do we perceive them?
In contrasting colors and abstract shapes with large fold-out pages, Cynthia Häflinger tries to find answers to these questions. Her artistic drawings are a unique way of showing us the chaotic workings of our minds, so we can actually see and feel them. A poetic invitation to dance through a world of thoughts.
Cynthia Häfliger:
»It all began with an idea that I began to follow as I started writing and making sketches. In the middle of all that, I ditched my first attempt and, building on that, started out again. Continuing to outline the idea as I kept drawing it around corners, up and down stairs, along turns and edges, from beginning to end. As with watercolors, each drop of water gets gouache into a state of flux. As richly colored spaces align with transparent ones, it always ends up being a playful interaction with and between colors.«
